The pearls of the Karst underworld are a special story. One phenomenon that excites the imagination is the approximately one thousand caves that have been discovered in the Karst so far, and many more in other regions of Slovenia.
You can take an exclusive train ride through the underworld, and get to know the most visited tourist cave in Europe, and the biggest classical karst cave, The Postojna Cave. It stretches across over 20 kilometers of tunnels, galleries, and halls. The nearby Predjama Castle invites you to take a trip into history, while you marvel how it was constructed in the middle of a 123-meter high rock ridge.

The water that helped form the life on and beneath the Karst plateau also connects Postojnska jama with another natural phenomenon, the intermittent Lake Cerknica.

The Škocjan Caves are an exceptional natural heritage site with a system of water caves, and have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 because of their unique web of numerous caves, holes, natural bridges, waterfalls, and rapids. The blind valley that the Reka river has created is marked by an enormous, 2.5-kilometer long underground canyon.

Between the Cerknica and Planina polje lies the wonderful karst valley Rakov Škocjan. It was created by the Rak river, which springs up in Zelniške caves, runs along the surface for 2.5 kilometers, then percolates in the Tkalci cave. The area has a whole range of karst features, and an educational path is set up along the valley.
Rakov Škocjan has been declared a natural park.
