About 10 kilometers from the seaside of Gulf of Trieste the village of Pliskovica provides the perfect Karst experience: a village of about 100 stone-built Karst homesteads, surrounded by an expanse of meadows and vineyards.
Pliska is the local name for a small bird, the pied wagtail, which has been nesting in Pliskovica and its surroundings for centuries. When the first shepherds migrated to these parts, they probably took inspiration from this lively bird when they named their equally lively sheep and goats “pliska”. This is also where the village got its name, and today is one of the largest ones on the plateau.
About 10 kilometers from the seaside of the Adriatic the village of Pliskovica provides visitors with the perfect Karst experience: a village of about 100 stone-built Karst homesteads, surrounded by an expanse of meadows and vineyards. You can explore by car, bicycle or on foot, as a Karst educational path is set up nearby. In the neighboring villages of Veliki dol, Tublje, Kregolišče, and Kosovelje you can also find numerous attractions, in addition to the traditional hospitality of the locals.
You can find accommodation and relaxation at the Hostel Kras Pliskovica, fashioned from a Karst homestead, which retained its farming soul, and has been protected as cultural heritage.
All this and more is just 15 minutes away from the seaside.
